Our Recent Community Projects
Apex High School Learner Support
In 2022 and 2023, Abakus Enrichment partnered with Acorn Education to provide dedicated Mathematics and Physical Science support to the Grade 12 learners of Apex High School in Cape Town.
Through weekly tutoring sessions, our team worked with the entire matric class, supporting teachers in thoroughly covering the curriculum, addressing problem areas, and strengthening learners’ overall understanding. This initiative was a tremendous success.
Learners engaged enthusiastically, showed remarkable growth, and consistently expressed how much they valued the support. The Apex High project remains one of our most rewarding community partnerships, reflecting our commitment to empowering learners in high-impact school environments.
Learner Support Sponsored by UCL
Since 2022, Abakus Enrichment has been in partnership with UCL Company Ltd in Dalton, KwaZulu-Natal, to provide academic support to learners from four low-resource schools in the area. What began as a focused small-group tutoring initiative for 20 selected learners—aimed at helping them achieve the Mathematics marks required for UCL learnership opportunities—has grown into a comprehensive community upliftment programme.
Today, the project includes:
- Weekly tutoring support for participating learners
- Termly professional development workshops for teachers at the four schools
- Large-scale Grade 11 Mathematics workshops for the full Grade 11 cohort at each school
The impact has been remarkable. Several learners who participated in the programme have since secured positions at UCL, creating a powerful cycle of opportunity, education, and employment. This partnership continues to grow and remains one of our most meaningful long-term community initiatives.
Primary School Workshops for Die Geleentheids Trust
Since 2024, Abakus Enrichment has partnered with Die Geleentheids Trust to deliver three workshops per year to Grade 6 and 7 learners from the Winelands and surrounding areas. Beginning with a cohort of around 50 Grade 6 learners, the programme supports and develops these learners over time, ultimately helping identify those who qualify for high school bursaries awarded by the Trust.
Our workshops focus on strengthening Mathematics, Literacy, and Mind-Set & Resilience, ensuring learners receive both academic support and personal development skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
The impact has been significant. Learners consistently show measurable improvement each term, and their enthusiasm for the workshops is evident in their active participation and growing confidence. It is a privilege to be part of their journey and to contribute to long-term educational opportunities in the region.
We are deeply grateful for the trust and collaboration of each organisation we partner with.
Working alongside schools, companies, and community-focused foundations allows us to extend our reach and create meaningful, lasting change in the lives of learners across South Africa.
